Nayrouz News Agency : Today, Wednesday, the Chairman of the National Building Council, Minister of Public Works and Housing, Yahya Al-Kasabi, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program Randa Abu Al-Hassan signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in reducing the risks of climate change for the city of Amman.
Al-Kasabi indicated that the memorandum of understanding, which comes within the sustainable urban development project for the city of Amman, seeks to prepare and update a set of national building codes on thermal insulation systems, rationalization of energy consumption and renewable energy uses in accordance with the latest international practices and in accordance with local needs and government plans.
The group includes: updating the thermal insulation code and preparing a guide to isolate existing buildings in line with technological developments to reduce energy consumption, preparing a new code for energy-saving outdoor lighting and using renewable energy for outdoor yards and gardens, and preparing a new code for green hospital buildings and their connection to reducing the effects of the Corona pandemic to be economical. For energy and water and environmentally friendly, and the preparation of the hydrological code to include the preparation of water and hydrological studies and their relationship to climate changes.
Al-Kasabi indicated that the joint cooperation between the Construction Council and the Development Program includes providing technical and logistical support to the supervisory inspection teams formed in the council, which is made up of engineers with expertise in the field of reconstruction within the two sustainable buildings units, which were opened today, Wednesday, and the construction supervision in the Council to conduct field visits and check on Projects to verify the application of building codes and thermal insulation requirements.
For her part, Representative Abul-Hassan stressed that the importance of the sustainable urban development and resource efficiency project lies in the fact that it provides measures to mitigate the effects of climate change in order to participate in the implementation of nationally determined contributions to reduce greenhouse gases and to fulfill national obligations towards the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. What distinguishes the project is that it "shows" and proves the positive effects of applying emissions mitigation measures, which reduces environmental pollution.
Meanwhile, Al-Kasabi inaugurated the Sustainable Buildings Unit in the Ministry of Works, in the presence of Abul-Hassan, the Director of Environmental Programs, Dr. Nidal Al-Oran, and the Secretary of the Construction Council, Dr. Jamal Qutaishat.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the development program and the project's technical team for their fruitful efforts to make this experiment a success in the city of Amman, looking forward to circulating this experience to all governorates of the Kingdom to increase areas of cooperation in limiting climate change.
