On Tuesday, an advisory committee from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will meet to discuss detailed recommendations for a vaccine for children in this age group.
The US Food and Drug Administration has approved doses for this age group of children.
After the CDC's advisors make their recommendations, the center's director, Rochelle Walinsky, will issue final instructions on them.
About 28 million doses of the vaccine are available in the United States, which is sufficient for all children of the target age group.
