The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini affirmed that the agency is now facing a triple tragedy, after Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon.
"The intensive Israeli raids that Lebanon has been subjected to since Monday have made this country a third active area of operations in addition to the Gaza and West Bank areas, explaining that this means that three areas of operations will become humanitarian emergencies, which means a triple tragedy.” Speaking to AFP on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Lazzarini said.
Faced with mounting Israeli strikes, UNRWA has paused some operations in Lebanon as it converts its schools into shelters for hundreds of people displaced from the south of the country.
