Iran and Saudi Arabia have discussed ways to enhance defense and military cooperation between the two countries.
That came during a meeting Sunday that brought together Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri and Chief of Staff of the Saudi General Staff Lieutenant-General, Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili.
"The cooperation between the Iranian and Saudi armed forces can be increased in light of the common denominators and high capabilities of the two countries,” Maj. Gen. Bagheri said.
He stressed the improvement of the level of cooperation in the defense fields and the exchange of experiences in the educational and sports sectors.
"We welcome the participation of the Saudi Arabian Navy in next year’s Iranian naval exercise, whether by sending naval units or joining as observers,” Bagheri said.
For his part, Al-Ruwaili stressed the improvement in the level of cooperation in various fields between the armed forces of the two countries.
"The Beijing agreement offers a strong basis for strengthening bilateral cooperation, and we see it as a strategic opportunity,” Al-Ruwaili said.
