Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that the top priority now to control the situation in the Middle East is to implement the Security Council resolutions and cease fire in the Gaza Strip, noting that his country will continue to work with the international community to help in this.
"The top priority is the full and effective implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, an early ceasefire and war and detente in the region,” Xi was quoted as saying by Novosti news agency Wednesday in a message to a UN meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Peace.
He went on that the fundamental solution to the Palestinian cause is to promote a political settlement, establish an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement at an early date.
He stressed that Beijing firmly supports Palestine’s full membership in the UN as well as holding a larger, more authoritative and effective international peace conference to resolve the Middle East conflict.
Xi added that his country will continue to work with the international community to jointly stop hostilities and killings, support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and organize humanitarian aid work for the people of Gaza.
