Nayrouz News Agency : Interior Minister Salameh Hammad Monday chaired meeting of the
regulatory and follow-up committee on borders and airports to discuss
tightening safety controls after a surge in coronavirus infections
across the region.
The meeting, which was attended by the
ministers of health and transport, the Public Security Department
director, the Director of the COVID-19 Crisis Cell Operations and
directors of concerned security bodies, tackled ways to strengthen
safety and preventive measures to curb the cross-border spread of the
coronavirus.
It also dealt with the transport of goods and travel
through border crossings and the return of Jordanian expatriates, and
to complete the provision of technical and administrative requirements
for trade exchange at the Omari border post with Saudi Arabia.
Hammad
said the government is keen to adopt balanced health and economic
decisions that are in the interest of the country and citizens and are
in line with the health and public safety regulations and the
developments in the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom.
He
said that the return of expatriates in private vehicles is still on hold
and has not been reviewed by the specialized committees, noting that
the Crisis Cell at the National Center for Security and Crisis
Management will follow up on the return of Jordanians in cooperation
with the concerned authorities.
Health Minister Saad Jaber told
the meeting that the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom is under
control and that investigation teams are tracking contacts with
individuals infected with the virus who came from abroad, adding that
any other measures will be taken pending developments in the
epidemiological situation, including extending the lockdown hours in
areas that may see a significant rise in the number of infections.
Director
of operations at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management
Brig. Gen. Al-Faraya said that the procedures for the return of
expatriates from abroad are in place and are subject to preventive
standards and public safety requirements, estimating the number of
expatriates who have returned to the Kingdom from various countries of
the world at 28,000.
