Nayrouz News Agency : The Kingdom on Saturday registered 24 new COVID-19 cases, including 19 local infections, increasing the caseload to 1,893, according to the government.

The local cases comprised 16 infections in Amman, of which 14 are contacts of COVID-19 patients, while the sources of the other two patients are under investigation.

Among the local infections were also two cases in Zarqa and one in Balqa, according to a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.

The cases from abroad comprised three Jordanians — one returning from Saudi Arabia, one from Egypt and one from Qatar — who have been in quarantine at designated hotels.

The cases from abroad also included a truck driver who tested positive at the Omari border crossing and an Arab national who came to the Kingdom as a medical tourist.

Meanwhile, 79 recoveries were registered during the past 24 hours, including eight from Prince Hamzah Hospital and 68 from the Dead Sea quarantine sites, the statement said.

A total of 9,615 random virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 810,061.

Jordan also registered 68 virus cases on Friday, including 62 local infections. The local cases comprised 56 infections reported in Amman, five infections in Zarqa and a case in Balqa.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by Defence Order No.11 and adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the "Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as "Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
